About the Indianapolis Scottish Society

About Scottish Society of IndianapolisThe Scottish Society of Indianapolis, Inc. was formed as an Indiana non-profit corporation in 1983 by our Founder and President Emeritus, Carter Keith. From humble beginnings as a small group meeting in an apartment clubhouse the organization has grown to nearly 200 members. The Scottish Society of Indianapolis is a place for people to celebrate Scottish heritage, history and culture. The Society does not require Scottish heritage to join. The Society is diverse and composed of genealogists, historians, re-enactors, pipers, dancers and those who simply love and celebrate "things Scottish."

The Society promotes education about Scottish culture through its monthly meetings, participation in activities such as the International Festival, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, various Scottish festivals and the Indy Irish Festival. We also hold an annual "Kirkin' O' the Tartan" - a traditional Scottish-American church service which concludes with a blessing of the Scottish clans and districts represented by those in attendance. We also hold an annual Founder’s Dinner – a more formal catered meal – to celebrate the Society’s heritage and the achievements of the last year.
